What makes a natural diamond different?
A natural diamond is formed deep within the earth under immense heat and pressure over billions of years, then brought to the surface by volcanic activity. Each stone carries subtle growth characteristics that make it genuinely one of a kind. A lab-grown diamond shares the same carbon crystal structure and visual properties, but is created in a controlled environment over weeks rather than geological time. Neither choice is inherently better — it comes down to what matters to you: rarity and origin, budget, or size for a given budget. MARA offers lab-grown diamonds alongside this natural collection so you can compare both options with personalised guidance.
Natural diamonds are graded on the four Cs: cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Cut governs how a stone returns light; colour measures how white a diamond is on the D–Z scale; clarity describes internal inclusions; and carat is weight rather than size. Certification and grading documentation is provided where applicable to the specific stone.
Fancy-colour diamonds — such as the natural fancy yellow diamonds in this collection — sit outside the D–Z scale and are graded on the intensity of their hue. Rich, naturally occurring colour is rare, and stones are selected for saturation, evenness of colour and how the cut presents it.
